We are finally back after our extended end of the year vacation. We blew out 2012 with a bang, visiting Huntsville and Alabaster, AL (our home towns) as well as visiting my folks and brother up in Pasadena, MD with a few quick trips to Baltimore and Annapolis mixed in. Then New Year’s in NYC with my brother and his hilarious and talented friends and now, finally, back to life here in Tallahassee. We caught up with so many folks we hadn’t seen in ages. It made me miss home, my twenties, and being closer to family. It was such a wonderful trip and I can’t believe we fit so much into just 2 weeks.

Perhaps my favorite part was getting to spend so much time with Lucy. Kevin and I both work full time and we don’t normally have so many days in a row with our sweet little girl, but when we do they are mostly awesome. One morning while in Pasadena, it snowed. We are all originally from the south, so it’s not so commonplace here. Lucy has never seen it in person! I asked her if she wanted to come outside and play in it. “No,” she said firmly.

“Do you want to put on GG’s jacket and let me take your picture?”

“No.”

“Um, OK but you have to see it! Just for a minute!” and that’s when Kevin threw my mom’s red coat on her and for all of 3 minutes, Lucy stood outside in the snow. At first it was interesting, but interest soon turned to dislike. The looks she gives me when she is obviously annoyed with my antics are some of my favorite faces she makes. My sweet little reluctant Red Riding Hood and her furrowed little brow…

She may not have enjoyed her 3 minutes of Snow Day at the time, but when I ask her now and she looks at her pictures with me she’ll say, “That’s me playing in the snow! I like the snow!” It’s funny how her memory works.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and new year. The past year was good to us and brought us so many new things and opportunities. I can’t wait to take on 2013! Now back to work!
