My mom is the most glamorous person that I know. There has never publicly been a moment that I know of where she wasn’t completely put together. Not a real time where she wasn’t all out fabulous. I can only assume there are no pictures of her with me in the hospital because she refused to be photographed in such a state. Don’t mistake this for prissiness though. My mom is tough. I once watched her chase a shoplifter out of her store and down the mall in 4 inch heels. Really, picture that in your head for a sec. A gorgeous, 30 something woman aggressively chasing down and catching a shoplifter, without taking off her shoes to gain any traction. You don’t steal something on her watch and get away with it. Seriously, I’m glad I’m on her team because I feel bad for all those who aren’t!

My mom is also a workaholic and doesn’t make a lot of time for herself. She’s always worked crazy long retail hours and in fact, from the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve for the last 25 years we are lucky if we even get to see her. And now that my parents have moved up north, I really only see her about twice a year in person. When I returned from Sue Bryce’s CreativeLive workshop (which I SWEAR I am still planning on writing about, but I’m still processing) she was absolutely the first person I wanted to photograph. So I called her up and said, “Hey when you come to visit I’m going to give you a makeover and take your pictures.” She said no! As much time as she spends making herself look awesome, she NEVER wants to be photographed. We barely have any pictures of her from before I was born. Really, we only have some after my brother and I were around because she had happened to be in the picture with us. Because you see it’s almost always the people that you think are amazingly beautiful that don’t actually feel that way about themselves. I think my mom forgot how pretty she is and I just wanted to remind her. I wanted to show her how beautiful I think she is. She finally let me.

And though she’ll jump all over me for it, I have to post this outtake because it makes me so happy.

Love you Mama!
